Well, you don't really have too. BUT if you want to get your whole self clicking on "all cylinders" then yes. What am I talking about? I'm talking about the second portion of the Core 4 practiced by those of the Ferocious Faith community, physical activity. Yes!! Physical activity is huge in protection our hearts.
As we have seen the heart is our intellect, emotions and our body. How is our body a part of our heart? I seems our intellect and emotions make our body move. So, Tyson, how can you connect the body to our heart.
Let's do a thought experiment. In a previous blog I used the car as an example of our heart. Our feelings are the gauges on the dash. The driver is the intellect determining where to take or drive the car. But it's the body of the car that moves and protects the driver and gauges from the elements. Without the body of the car the driver would be drenched in rain, frozen in sleet, dehydrated from the 100 degree heat, and loaded with bugs in the face. Essentially, driving sixteen hours on vacation would be dreadful. Thus is life. Without a proper body life can be extremely difficult and if the body gets too bad we are no longer able to function.
It's our bodies that carry out the desires of our hearts. Whether that's training for a new certification, sitting in a deer stand, going to watch our children perform at an event. The body IS THE VEHICLE by which our hope is carried out. King Solomon says:
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
When we have hopes and dreams but cannot carry them out our heart gets sick. No, not physically ill, though anxiety, depression, etc. can make the heart "sick." Solomon is talking about something more drastic, loss of hope. An inability to accomplish and fulfill what you want. You see this vehicle we live in called the body must be well maintained (each to the best of their individual ability) if we are to accomplish what is in our heart. Without it we lose hope. We let go of our dreams. We let life happen. We cease to OWN IT and allow our diet, what we watch, listen too, read, discuss, etc. go by the wayside until our lives become horribly bogged down until we no longer are accomplishing our dreams. BUT if our bodies are able to carry out our hearts desires then it's like a tree of life! You know what a tree does? It produces fruit and more life!
A well maintened body is core to keeping your heart hopeful. So now ask yourself, "Does it matter if my body is as healthy as possible?" The answer is a resounding "YES!"
Also, consider this. When you exercise your brain increases the production of Serotonin. Serotonin in the body increases your feeling of "feeling good." In fact anti-depression medications work to increase your bodies output of serotonin.
Secondly, excercise increases your bodies production of Norepinephrine which is key to memory recall. Not only is it key to memory but also attention, focus, and alertness.
Third, your brain produces brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) which is directly related to long term brain health.
Ok, enough of the "physical chemical" benefits because you can find them yourself.
Here's the bottom line, if you cannot carry out the hope in your heart, through and into our physical world, you will get depressed and lose hope. That is what is most threatening.
Now, let me be clear, you do not have to be ripped and do CrossFit and run marathons. If walking to the mailbox is all you can do and it pushes your limits, OWN IT!! The important thing is that you are making your body push it's limits and grow.
This is why I created the 30 Day Ferocious Faith Challenge. To help you guard your heart. The 30 Day Ferocious Faith Challenge will help you grow your intellect, get your body in better shape, and help your spirit.
Looking forward to meeting you in our community.
